‘Understanding our emotions, recognising their influence on us and learning to express them appropriately and accurately are all key to getting along well with others and achieving our goals in life. In this session we will look at the crucial role we can play as parents and carers in helping children to gain these important skills of emotional literacy. We explore ways in which we can encourage children to develop awareness of their emotions. We’ll take a closer look at emotional reactions and see how a framework for understanding them can also be a great help for us as parents, not only to assist our children but also in helping us to maintain our own balance in the face of very challenging behaviours and circumstances.’
