Emotional Literacy Workshops in Banchory
‘Understanding our emotions, recognising their influence on us and learning to express them appropriately and accurately are all key to getting along well with others and achieving our goals in life. In this 3-part course we will look at the crucial role we can play as parents and carers in helping children to gain these important skills of emotional literacy. We explore ways in which we can encourage children to develop awareness of their emotions. We’ll take a closer look at emotional reactions and see how a framework for understanding them can also be a great help for us as parents, not only to assist our children but also in helping us to maintain our own balance in the face of very challenging behaviours and circumstances.’
The 3-part course will be led by Jill Birch, local Mum of four and an Outdoor and Forest School Practitioner, working with children of all ages. Jill has worked previously as a long-term volunteer with Nature Nurture, an early intervention programme for vulnerable and disadvantaged children based at Camphill, Aberdeen.

Targeting parents, primary teachers, secondary maths teachers and SFL staff, these talks will explore the potential obstacles to progression in maths with an overview of the difficulties faced; investigate what hinders progression; discuss thinking/learning styles and propose multi sensory strategies for both classroom and home support as well as discussing the value of error analysis in order to put in place strategies to overcome observed errors.
While this is aimed at supporting young people with Specific Learning Difficulties, there will be a range of strategies appropriate to those with no identified difficulty but who are experiencing issues with progression in maths.
